Event Details

This event was previously scheduled on Friday February 19.

Join us for a scientific discussion focused on the award-winning novel and film adaptation, Hidden Figures written by Margot Lee Shetterly. The plot tells the story of female African-American mathematicians at NASA who calculated the flight trajectories for Project Mercury including the Friendship 7. This spacecraft is celebrating it's 59th anniversary since it's launch on February 20, 1962. Please either read the book or watch the movie prior to attending. These can be checked out via curbside.

After our discussion, we will build a "rocket" together using materials provided. Rocket kits can be picked up at the Severn Library via curbside during our hours of operation starting Saturday February 13 through Friday February 19:

Monday-Thursday 10am-6pm

Friday-Saturday 10am-5pm

Sunday 1pm-5pm

This event was created in partnership with students from South River High School's community challenge program.
