Program Description

Event Details

This program provides an overview of the ways in which race, gender, and sexuality intersect for Asian and Asian American women, and how those intersecting identities shape the narrative around racism against Asian and Asian American women. Specifically, we will cover the US history of immigration, imperialism, and labor laws for Asians/Asian Americans, the formation of stereotypes and controlling imagery of Asian women, and modern yellow peril tactics that paint Asian women as “dragon ladies” and “submissive war brides.” Further, we will discuss the model minority myth and anti-Asian rhetoric that has surrounded COVID-19 and other recent events.
